- DWC Will Be the Largest in the World
Dubai Airport will be the largest in the world
In April 2024, the Dubai Government approved plans to build a passenger mega terminal at DWC at a cost of ~$35 billion.
DWC Now:
- Opened for freight transport since 2010, for passenger flights since 2013.
- Named after Maktoum bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the former ruler of Dubai.
- Located in the south of the city in Dubai South, 45km from Dubai International Airport (DXB).
- Accepts cargo and passenger flights of 10+ airlines: Air Poland, China Southern Airlines, S7, Utair, etc.
- Has one runway and 12 boarding gates. Registration is quick due to low passenger traffic and lack of queues.
New DWC:
Capacity: 260 million passengers per year - the highest in the world.
Area: 70 km² (5 times larger than DXB)
Runways: 5
Boarding gates: 400
DWC would feature an automated people mover system for passengers, and an integrated landside transport hub for roads, Metro, and city air transport.
DXB will continue to operate as a hub within 10 years that DWC is being built. It will serve 100 million+ passengers and then will be closed.
Plans are underway to build an entire city for 1 million people around the new airport. It will host the world's leading logistics and air transport companies.
Demand is expected to reach 100,000+ properties over the next decade. Property prices in Dubai South will increase and grow faster when the airport is redeveloped.
